Welcome to San Jose
San José, California — also known as El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe — is the third largest city in the State of California. It’s a booming center of the information technology world and boasts lots of exciting public artistic projects, municipal architecture and cultural festivities. According to a 2005 census, the city has a population of nearly one million and is populated by people of dozens of faiths and ethnicities. It also serves as the headquarters for some of America’s most well-known and important companies, including IBM, eBay and Lockheed Martin.
Yet for all the focus on San José’s strength as an IT powerhouse, the city offers tons of fun for residents and tourists alike. If you are a fan of hockey, for instance, you can go see the San José Sharks play at the HP Pavilion. Parents looking to entertain curious children can spend a day exploring the Children’s Discovery Museum and possibly the Tech Museum of Innovation as well. Are you in the mood for yummy Vietnamese food? San José boasts one of the biggest populations of Vietnamese people outside of Vietnam itself — this community owns and operates a number of exquisite eateries. You might also check out some of the city’s architectural gems from early in the 20th century, such as the Hotel Sainte Claire and the D’Enza Hotel.
